Over the last two years, Orb has made a real effort to promote positive mental health and well-being for the whole community:
- We have offered singing, music and art sessions to local people in the evening.
- We have opened up our services to people attending Knaresborough’s three GP surgeries.
- We also offer a range of courses aimed at developing economically inactive people’s volunteering and work skills, whilst ensuring they stay well in the workplace.
However, we shouldn’t forget Orb’s core work with North Yorkshire County Council’s Health and Adult Services, supporting some of the area’s most vulnerable people.
Orb is an approved provider to the local authority, offering a range of individually tailored creative activities to those getting statutory support. Anyone with a disability or a long term health condition who gets a personal budget to spend on their personal care can choose to use it to access Orb.
You can use this budget to get involved in activities as varied as singing and recording in the music studio, learning creative writing and blogging skills, making and editing your own films, learning a musical instrument, or even taking cabaret lessons.
The list is long and flexible – and if you have an idea of something you want to do, that you think we might not offer, our large and talented staff and volunteer team may well be able to help you. Personalised support is at the heart of what Orb does best.
Orb also works closely with the Community Mental Health teams, offering the same range of personalised creative opportunities to anyone getting their support. Anyone with a care co-ordinator can get a referral to Orb, and access the full range of innovative, friendly and supportive services as part of their own journey to recovery.
Whoever you are, and whatever your background, Orb can play a real role in boosting your mental well-being. With the range of services and facilities that we now offer, there’s never been a better time to get in touch.
