On Friday December 12th, Orb held its annual Christmas party. Service users, volunteers, staff and friends congregated in the performance space, to sip mulled fruit punch and feast themselves on all manner of snacks and treats.

The afternoon’s entertainment began with a DJ set from James, who got us into the party spirit by seamlessly mixing some of his favourite progressive house tunes. Next up, Diane sang us some self-penned songs, in collaboration with studio manager Andy and the Orb house band. Diane delivered a spellbinding performance, singing from the heart.

Diane was followed by two more DJ sets. First up, Mike spun us some vintage 7-inch vinyl from his collection, mixing Sixties and Seventies soul, funk, Northern and reggae tunes, and combining classics and rarities.

Mike was followed by Orb’s DJ tutor Rory, whose career has been going from strength to strength this year, most notably with a performance in front of 20,000 people at the Tour de France in Harrogate. Rory threw himself into his set with joyful abandon, playing everything from Michael Jackson to Madness, and from Pharrell Williams to the Rolling Stones.

Finally, Jamie calmed the mood with his brand of moody, heartfelt singer-songwriter rock, once again aided and abetted by the house band. His set ended with an unlikely medley of Dolly Parton and Guns ‘N Roses, performed as you have never heard them before! Once again, the rest of us gave him our full attention, and Jamie left the stage to warm applause.

It was great to bring the whole Orb community together for the afternoon, and to celebrate all that we have achieved together in 2014. Our thanks to everyone who helped to make the afternoon such a success.
